Any mac user, specially a new one like me, whose moved over from windows, will definitely come across this problem. If you have portable external hdd's, and if they are formatted in ntfs, you will realize when you plug them into a mac, that you can read files from it, but wont be able to write files onto it. The native OS X ntfs driver supports only read functionality. There is, however, like for most things, a hack. You need to have the following software before you can proceed. MacFuse: http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/ Fink: http://www.finkproject.org/download/index.php?phpLang=en Xcode developer tool: This is available on Apple's website, but you will need to log in with your existing Apple Id into ADC (Apple developer community) member site, or create a new account, and then download this tool. Once you have all these downloaded onto your Mac: -run the installer for MacFuse. -install the xcode tool. -run the installer for fink -drag the fink commander application into your applications folder Next you need to configure Fink, using the following commands: - /sw/bin/fink configure - /sw/bin/fink selfupdate - /sw/bin/fink index - /sw/bin/fink scanpackages - /sw/bin/fink install ntfs-3g Choose the default option for all questions during the configuration process (i.e. hit enter for default option), except when asked a question about unstable tree, choose Yes. Reboot and you should be able to read & write from a ntfs partition. http://www.hackszine.com/blog/archive/2007/06/howto_readwrite_to_ntfs_drives.html?CMP=OTC-7G2N43923558

August 9th 2008, PNC Bank & Arts center Holmdel, NJ Testament, Motorhead, Heaven & Hell and Judas Priest. The best f'kin concert I've been to. The energy, the performance, the sound....mind blowing. I got to see the legends of former Black Sabbath;Tony Iommi,Vinny Appice, Geezer and Dio, perform. But the evening belonged to Judas Priest. Rob Halford was at his screaming best. The contribution to the rock/metal genre from British bands have been unparalleled. They've produced so many legendary musicians and bands, it's unbelievable. \m/ \m/ All the photos are courtesy <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/sumanthishere/MetalMastersTour">Sumanth</a> Blogged with the Flock Browser

"Kill To Crimson Tour" - Mark Knopfler with Jessica Hoop Venue: Summerstage, Central Park, NY 7/23/08 This was my second time seeing Mark Knopfler Live. I'm a big fan of Dire Straits, and his style of guitaring, singing and songwriting. His solo albums are lot more mellow than Dire Straits, but he still has his signature guitar sound. Today was the same, some great Mark Knopfler classic stuff. Romeo & Juliet, Sultans of Swing, Telegraph road, So Far Away, Brothers in Arms, and Tunnel of Love were some of the classics he played along with songs from his new album. I have a confession too :) spending way too much money on concert tickets :) I'm attending a Mark Knopfler concert next week at central park, NY. In August, going for a kick ass concert, the Metal Masters tour...Judas Priest, Testament and Heaven & Hell (Former Black sabbath members and Dio). What a lineup!!!! And then Joe sat in Oct.... I don't regret blowing money up on this, but I might have a tough time explaining it to my mom :)

The Sukhoi Su-30 MKI[1] is a variant of the Sukhoi Su-30, jointly-developed by Russia's Sukhoi Corporation and India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force. It is a heavy class, long-range, multi-role, air superiority fighter and strike fighter. -wiki It is also famous for its ability to perform the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su-30MKI"> Pugachev's Cobra maneuver.</a> It has to be the most majestic looking fighter plane I've seen. The Sukhoi, compared to other fighters, has an awesome presence. When you stand close to it, your in awe of this beauty. Blogged with the Flock Browser

We all know how good Gmail is, and that it offers almost 6GB of space. The other good thing is, unlike other email providers, your mails are never deleted. So I've started to use it almost like a database now for all my acad related stuff and other documents that I might need when I don't have my laptop with me. Now uploading files onto gmail is a pain. There used to be a neat little desktop application called gmail drive but it doesn't seem to work anymore. This plugin called Gspace for firefox works within the browser. The user interface is very to use. The cool thing about it is it allows you to upload folders. You cannot usually upload folders onto the internet through a web browser. With this you can. And it maintains that structure even after uploading into gmail.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article3850633.ece I feel ashamed when I read things like this. One the one hand we have people asking for a ban on cheerleaders in the IPL saying it hurts the sentiments of Indian people because a woman is equated to a godess and is virtuous and all that. But then we have cases like this where there is absolutely no regard for woman. I think we are the biggest hypocrites in the world...

I've been planning on buying a new laptop. My current lappy, Vaio, has run out of steam. It's a Core Duo running on 1.5GB of RAM and XP. I switched to Ubuntu for a few days and was happy with it. I'm alternating between Ubuntu and XP now. I'm really sick and tired of windows. The things I'm looking for in a laptop are: - weight factor, something lightweight, which would mean a smaller screen compared to the 15.4" widescreen I have now, - Horsepower...for multiple applications, faster boot up times and for my photoshop work and other multimedia applications which would require good processing power -operating system...now this is the tough part...i ve used XP for a long time. It's served me well...but I really don't think I want to go in for vista specially after hearing all the horror stories from my friends. I think its time to go for the Leopard, but my only concern is the availabilty of software(read free/pirated software:) ) -not really concerned about storage..i already have 250GB of external hdd space -and my budget would be somewhere around 1500$ I've kind of narrowed down to 3 brands...Dell XPS(comes with vista only), Thinkpad X61(this one has a Win XP option) and Macbook What do you guys think?

When you see the flowers blossoming, birds chirping early morning, and kids out playing in the park, you know know that spring is here. The seasons are so dramatic. The trees change with the season. I saw fall colors for the first time, and it was really nice. Then the winter set in. The trees wore a depressed look with no leaves. Occassionally when it snowed quite a bit and the trees were covered with snow, it was nice to look at, but otherwise it was depressing look. Now, with the spring having arrived it seems like the trees have come back to life. I'm guessing the Spring season holds a lot of significance to people here like how the monsoon is to us in India.

I love these shoes. My first Air Jordan's. I always wanted to buy one but you never get these in India. So when I saw them I couldn't resist, and it's Jordan's shoe line (one of my favorite sporting heroes). The best part though is I paid only 30$ for them :D They sell for 90$ or so... This was in a way my b'day gift as I bought it with what my aunt had given me for my B'day. I turned 23 this year, and Jordan's number was 23, so I'll kinda remember this one for a long time, plus it was my first B'day here too.

http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20080044247&ch=3/17/2008%209:29:00%20PM Where do we draw the line when it comes to freedom of speech and offending people and sections of soceity? We kicked Salman Rushdie out, now Taslima Nasreen. If she has a certain view on a few things, however sensitive they might be to people concerned, she's not forcing it on them. Nobody asked anyone to go read her's or Salman Rusdie's books. Yes, there will always be groups waiting to create controversies. But why is the Government a mute spectator? Can't they step in? Goddamm Politics!!!
