First things first - this is not a N1 vs iPhone comparison. I will attempt to review the phone, its features and the user interface. Also this is not the final word on the phone as i will update this as I use the phone more. 1. Hardware: It runs on a 1Ghz snapdragon processor. The phone comfortably handles multiple applications, at least so far it has. It comes with usb cord, power cord, earphones and a soft pouch. The screen is absolutely brilliant - great contrasts and colors. My photos look sharp and colorful on the phone. The 5mp camera is impressive although I havent tested it out during low light conditions. It also comes with a blackberry like scroll wheel to navigate which can be useful. 2. User Interface: It is responsive, accurate at most times, and intuitive most importantly. There is no hardware keyboard, so input is via the on-screen keyboard, which I'm still getting used to. Typing on it is obviously not as fast as it would be on a regular QWERTY keyboard but its not bad at all and I feel my typing speed will increase as I use the device more. What Google has also included is their 'beta' version of voice input which translates your voice into text, or even commands to search on the web, or lookup google maps. Another cool thing is the security pattern used to lock the phone. Unlike the iphone which has the security code that needs to be typed in to unlock the screen, N1 has a set of dots in a 3*3 matrix over which you trace a pattern connecting a minimum no of dots and the phone then stores it. So to unlock you would have to trace the same pattern. Switching between apps is easy. 3. Media: It comes with a 4gb flash card and mounts as a usb storage device when connected to the computer. There is no iTunes like software to manage and transfer files, but I prefer to drag n drop files myself so this works for me just fine. It has a fancy 3d gallery to view your photos. Music player is decent, no EQ though. Speakers are ok but nothing spectacular. I will listen to music I just loaded on my headphones later and update here. The videos from YouTube and the ones stored on the card played well and without any stutter. 4. Web browsing: Tests conducted. by a few tech blogs indicate this loads web pages faster than the iphone and the Droid. Scrolling and clicking. on links is a breeze. Pinch and squeeze. would have been great but I suspect it will be added in the future. 5. Apps: This is where the iPhone wins hands down thanks to the genius of Steve Jobs. But the android market is not bad and it will only improve. I haven't explored all the apps yet so I will update this again after sometime. I haven't tested the battery yet but so far it seems to be holding up good. That's. all for now, but I shall continue to update this post as I explore this device in the next few days and weeks. P.S This entire blog was written on the N1. Update 1: First quirk I noticed - you cannot select text in email. You will need to open it in the browser to select text. Hope they fix it soon!!
